Our Review:
During Gangway To Galilee, children will sail to sites all around the Sea of Galilee, hearing stories from Jesus' life and learning about how Jesus Gives Amazing Grace.
With a strong evangelical emphasis, Concordia's Gangway to Galilee maintains their motto of "VBS with Purpose." All of their lessons during this 5 day program are designed to help kids learn the way of salvation by grace through faith in Jesus Christ.
Fun activities, music, crafts, and snacks make Gangway to Galilee exciting and interesting for kids. I have to say that the Snacks are my favorite this year, with amazingly fun ideas like "Banana Boats" and the "Cone of Plenty" (which is an ice cream cone on its side, stuffed with all sorts of trail mix type items, including Goldfish!)
Besides all of this, there are plenty of ideas for decorating, as well as tons of materials that help you get the point of your story across.
Since the lessons are all situated around the Sea of Galilee, there is a nice connection between the stories. All of them have some version of a boat, or the seashore, or the water involved with them. This will make your decorating a little easier. (For example: Your "boat" can stay up all week, and maybe just get moved around a little.)
This VBS is for all ages, as Concordia has prepared a separate Preschool program, as well as a Youth and Adult study called "Anchored."
"Anchored" covers the same lessons as the kids' VBS and can be used to help volunteers prepare for the stories they will teach, or to help parents to better understand the lessons their children are learning. You could easily use this as an extension of the outreach of your VBS program.
The Gangway to Galilee Starter Kit contains everything that you will need to get started; including all of the printed materials and samples of craft ideas and lots of extras.
Concordia has provided a truly lovely program, with a traditional approach to VBS, along with fun games, activities, snack ideas, and songs.
